World poker
The world of poker is an exciting one. It’s a place full of prospects; a world centered around a game in which you can win it all or lose everything in the blink of an eye. It’s an exciting game, and consequently has garnered quite a lot of attention for itself.

A great deal of this attention - at least from only casual poker fans, anyway - comes from the World Poker Tour. With gigantic prize pools and high buy in prices, the World Poker Tour is the place where the elite of the poker community meet to fight it out for the big prizes.

But let’s say you’re a good poker player with little money. It’s hardly an option for the average player to enter this set of tournaments by paying the buy in fee (which usually hits between $5,000 and $10,000). What’s there to do in this case? Are you effectively banned from playing?

Not so. First off there are (and always have been) satellite tournaments held in cities away from the main event, before the main is even held. These satellites require a great deal less money than the main event, and if you’re successful in them you can push yourself into the main event without having to pay a world worth of money. Unfortunately these satellite tournaments are not always readily available to locals. So what else can you do?

Why, as with anything nowadays, you can head online. Many casino sites offer qualifying tournaments and regular games. Play enough games, win enough tournaments, and you may be headed to Vegas to compete.

Bear in mind that not just any old site will have this option available. If you’re serious about competing then sign up for a site that’s affiliated with the World Poker tour and start playing like crazy. You’ll need to build quite a reputation for good card playing before you’re considered experienced enough to play in the tour. And even if you don’t manage to qualify, hey: you might make some decent dough trying to work your way up the ranks.
