| Rules of poker |
|
There’s no huge trick to learning the rules of poker. Anybody can pick up the rules quickly enough as long as they apply themselves in a steady manner and learn all the tricks. Yet that said there are still a lotta players who lose regularly to a small core of truly skilled poker pros. So what do they know about the rules of poker that nobody else does? Read on and maybe you’ll learn.
First, you need the right mindset to play poker, both offline and on. You need to spend a lot of time practicing before you can expect to win. Download a few free poker programs and learn the rules inside and out by playing hand after hand. And don’t stop practicing once you think you’re a master, either.
Second, you need to start playing for money as soon as possible. Though poker is a game, for some people it’s also a livelihood. You can earn some serious bucks off it - but only if you’re willing to take your beatings and lose a bit o’ money in the process. And the sooner you lose said money the sooner you can decide whether or not playing poker seriously is for you. If you decide it is then you’ll play all the more intelligently, because you’ll realize that your hard - earned cash is on the line with every game. The rules will come to you all the more quickly under these circumstances.
Third, realize that poker is a game of patience. There’s nothing in the official rules of poker that say as much, but it’s true. You need to be willing to sit through a dozen or more dull games waiting for a good hand to come up rather than just betting it all on the first pot. Players who do that fizzle quickly and are picked clean by sharks. Play conservatively and you’ll begin to succeed through successive steps.
And, finally, realize that when the time comes you need to stick to your guns. Have confidence in good hands and don’t falter when bidding.
