Looking for a way to spice up that boring old game of Texas Hold’Em? As exciting as poker is it’s easy to lose interest after playing hundreds of hands. Well, you can - you just need to try out Omaha poker instead.
Omaha is the evolution of Texas Hold’Em. Instead of the traditional two cards you’re given four. And though there is still a five card community pool available on the table, you have to choose from three of those cards. You still have to make your best five card poker hand with Omaha but the change in the number of cards available to you switches your strategy up a bit from Texas Hold’Em.
As with any game of poker it’s important - especially when playing online - to get a feel for the game first. Play some low or no stake practice games, preferably against computer players, so you know what to expect when the time comes to put money on the table. It’s easy to find programs to engage in either of these. You can play in a real casino but it’s not suggested, even for old hands to other poker games: this one plays so different from other variants that you need the time to adjust accordingly to it.
Also, as with any poker game, it’s important to try and read the hands of your opponents. Winning hands are especially difficult to get in this poker, and so you need to know what your opponent will play before you make any decisions on your own hand. Always try and keep your highest, strongest cards when choosing to throw anything out during the bidding rounds. Keep an ace handy whenever one pops up.
It’s also important that you know when to walk away. You can learn a lot more about a hand - and your opponents - if you fold on weak hands. By doing so you can ignore your cards and try and get a feel what other opponents have by the way they bet. More, you’ll stay in the game longer if you fold often when your cards are weak.
